I teach 45 minute or 60 minute lessons, and my studio gathers for 2 studio classes and a recital every year.
I primarily use the Suzuki Method and Barbara Barber books for beginning and intermediate students; advanced players study the full breadth of violin and viola repertoire.
Together, my students and I form a a vibrant, supportive community where players of all ages and levels develop as thoughtful musicians and confident performers. Outreach concerts, additional performance opportunities (such as performing the anthem for Giants’ games!), and summer chamber music are also available for members of my studio.
My students participate in organizations such as the Crowden School, Young People's Symphony Orchestra (YPSO), Berkeley Youth Symphony (BYO), Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra (PACO), and orchestras in many East Bay schools. Former students have gone on to study music at various colleges and universities.
While my teaching is grounded in both extensive performance training and artistic experience, it also reflects a deep commitment to pedagogy, which to me means knowing both the science of learning just as well as any technique. For me, teaching is a part of my own self-identity as a lifelong learner, and I am constantly integrating new ideas into lessons.
I love approaching each lesson with curiosity, which allows the student and I to explore together without losing sight of the rigor inherent in learning a stringed instrument.
